Come and fall in love with this beautiful city β Udaipur with me. City of lakes, Udaipur is often called as Venice of the East. This gorgeous city is nestled by Aravalli hills and offers magnificent views of stunning places, forts, gardens, museums, and lakes.
I visited Udaipur with my family, we loved the place. I am happy to share my travel journey of the city with you all. We spent most of the time in exploring the city. We loved Udaipur and suggest you to must visit the city once in your lifetime. This travel blog will give you an insight on how to spend 3 days in Udaipur and make best memories out of it.
Day 1 β We reached Udaipur early morning by train. After check in, we had breakfast, take a small nap and get ready for the day. We have planned the day very systematically so that we save time and explore everything. We started our day by paying a visit to Jagdish temple. Jagdish temple is the largest Hindu temple and one of the major tourist spot of the city.
After visiting the temple, we visited the City Palace, which is just 10 minutes walk from the temple. You can easily walk and reach the palace without wasting any time. We made our entry into the palace through a beautiful triple-arched gate.
City Palace is one of the largest complex and architectural wonders of Rajasthan. You need 2-3 hours to explore the palace, so donβt be in a hurry to jump off to the next location. There is an entry ticket for the same.
Tip: I would advise to hire a guide to know about its history and explore the palace fully.
After exploring the palace, we head to Jag Mandir through the boat. We took a Β boat from the City Palace to Jag Mandir and did boating in the serene lake. Believe me! It was a mesmerizing experience where you get a glimpse of the Leela Hotel, Ambrai Ghat and Udai Vilas. We reached here around lunch time, so we had some snacks in the restaurant, clicked some good pictures and return back to the City Palace by boat.
Tip: I would advise to carry light snacks and drinks along with you as the restaurant inside Jag Mandir is quite expensive.
Its evening time now we have planned to view the sunset from Karni Mata Temple. We headed for the same; it was again 15-20 minutes walk from exit gate of the City Palace. This Hindu temple is located on Machla hills and is reachable by a cable car and after that there are few stairs walk filled with amazing views o the city, rest shelters and shops.
Tip: You can save on transport expenses and time while planning to visit Jagdish temple, City Palace, Karni Mata Temple in one day as they all are closely located. And, I you have time, you can also add Bagore ki Haveli which is again a 10 minutes walk from Jagdish temple.
We ended our day by having local street food in dinner at chowpati or Bombay market. This market is located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake. The night scene here is full of lights, fountain making it a nice place to roam in evening. Β There are lots of food options available here. You can have delicious pao bhaji, Maggie, shakes, hot milk. A must try to place if you love street food.
Day 2 β We have planned to visit early in the morning as its far from the city, around 10 kms and is open from 8 AM to 9 PM. The city is well connected with roads, you can takean Β auto or cab or local bus. We took an auto till entry gate and from thereafter, took shared cab to reach to the main fort. This amazing fort is located on a Bansdara peak of Aravalli hill which is around 3100 ft above sea level and offers breathtaking views.
Tip: Try to visit early in the morning to watch sunrise and avoid crowd.
From the fort, we freshen up as it was little cold, took an auto and reach Ambrai Ghat, another beautiful place to visit in Udaipur. Auto took us to the ghat from old, thin streets of the city. We spotted too many awesome artworks on streets. I took photographs and they are just so colorful. My daughter enjoyed here running behind the pigeons. We spent good time here and enjoyed the serenity of the place.
Its lunch time and what could be better having food while enjoying spectacular views of the lake. We head to Ambrai Restaurant and had lip smacking food there.
Our next destination is Gangaur Ghat followed by Bagore ki Haveli. Gangaur Ghat is one of the main ghats situated near waterfront of Lake Pichola and Bagore ki Haveli. We spent some time here while waiting for Bagore ki Haveli top open. Although, the place is not so clean and has no provision of sitting but you can adjust on stairs or can roam on the Ghat.
The lane has many rooftop restaurants and snacks corner where one can have tea and snacks before entering haveli for show as it will be night when you leave from haveli.
After waiting we move on to my daughterβs favorite β its Bagore ki Haveli. We told her about the folk dance show and puppet show that takes place here everyday. So, she was eager to watch the same. One of the famous and must to visit place in Udaipur, located on Lake Pichola.
Bagore ki haveli is graceful and beautiful haveli boasting over 100 rooms decorated beautifully with mirrors and glass work. We explored the haveli and were mesmerized by its beauty before the show starts.
Dharohar is an evening live show depicting Rajasthani culture which showcases various folk dances and puppet show. Β I must say this is an exceptional cultural show performed by skilled artists. Once the show starts, you will get lost in it.
Tip: I will suggest reaching at the destination by 6 pm so that you can buy tickets as soon as counter opens as they allow only 80-90 people in one show and take your seats in front so that you can enjoy. I will strongly recommend watching this show while in Udaipur.
Day 3 β The last day to spend in the romantic and beautiful city, so have kept this day light and easy. We started our day by visiting Saheliyon ki Bari, it was near our hotel. Saheliyo ki Bari means garden of maids. One of the famous tourist attractions in Udaipur. Must to visit with kids. It will take 20-30 minutes to explore the garden.
After visiting garden, we went to Fateh Sagar Lake. Β Fateh Sagar Lake is the second largest artificial or manmade lake surrounded by hills. You can enjoy the scenic beauty of the city. We just kept sitting for some time and admire the marine beauty of the place. After enjoying such serenity, we did camel ride and took speed boat. Boat takes us to Nehru park, which is in the middle of the lake. We spent some time there and return back. These are experiences to cherish forever. We had snacks in lunch at the food street and head to Hathipole market for shopping.
Any trip is incomplete without shopping. Agree? You cannot come back home from a trip, especially from Rajasthan. Isnβt it? We did shopping at the market. The market has wide options to buy. From colorful bandhani duppattas to juttis, home dΓ©cor items to leather products, silver jewellery to lac bangles, artworks, rugs, and much more. We shop shop shop and head to the railway station to board the train to Delhi.
I have covered mainly all must to visit places in Udaipur. Few other places to visit in the city include Vintage car museum, Shilpgram, Badi Lake, Doodh Talai Musical garden, Gulab Bagh and Zoo and Moti Magri Memorial.
I loved exploring Udaipur β gorgeous city of Lakes. The place has a vibe that makes everyone to fall in love with it. Udaipur is fantastic. Itβs awesome, peaceful, and one of my much loved destinations in India.
